When I talk about this, it's hard to believe it actually happened let alone to me.
The day was a monday. Both Luke and my mom were finally going back to work. They had each taken time off after the delivery to be with me. I was feeling better. I was still tired/weak and on lots of medication, from the delivery, but I felt good. It was about 10:00am and we were headed to the peditrician. On the way there I was fine. My bleeding was spotty at best so I work Khaki yoga pants! Walking into the doctor I realized, I was probably overdoing it. I had to carry Bella in her carseat carrier and i was pissed i didn'nt have a travel system because she was really heavy and I was much weaker than I realized. It was when we got into an exam room, I started cramping. Now at this point, i wasn't sure what was wrong. Since my colon surgery 5 years before, every so often i have bathroom issues and c-sections tend to make those worse, plus i was on high dose of iron pills,so at first I thought it was that. They got worse and after our appt. was over, I made a stupid decision and decided to leave. (i should have stayed there and told them how i was feeling) Our doctor noticed I was very pale and asked if I was ok. i told her yes, just tired and was going to rest at home. On the way out to the car, I could barely walk. i thought if I could just sit down and go home and relax I would be fine. I had just walked out of the doors of the office, when I started hemmoraging. There was so much blood, my once khaki pants were almost all red. I started driving home and it kept getting worse. I kept bleeding, and the pain was enough to make to feel faint. I realized i should not be driving because I was going to get in an accident. I pulled in to my ob/gyn's parking lot and called him. He was in surgery and I talked to the worst nurse. She was clueless. i told her I was bleeding excessively and what should I do, I was in the parking lot. She told me to come up. I asked her if someone could come get me because I couldn't make it there and SHE PUT ME ON HOLD!!!!!!! I was freaking out. My thought was I was going to pass out due to all the blood loss and my kids would be stuck in the car all alone. So I hang up and call 911. They were great and sent someone right away. 2 seconds later, a firetruck, ambulance, and police car surround me. Out walks the 6 best looking men. I couldn't believe it and actually wished i had a "cute" injury like a broken arm! I was really mortified to be vaginally bleeding and having to tell them that. Although really one look at me, from the waist down I looked like a crime scene. They asked if i could move and I realized I couldn't. I was in to much pain. So one of them (more embarressment) had to carry me, to the stretcher. They asked if I wanted the kids to ride along, I did, but someone mentioned that Mike (4 at the time) really shouldn't be seeing all this. He was right so it was determined the cops would stay with the kids and call Luke to come get them. Even though I was in so much pain, I gave the cop the third degree about not kidnapping my kids. I think the bleeding was making me a little upset. He was really nice about it! and took great care of my kids. On the ambulance ride, it dawned on me that they had to make a terrible phone call to Luke that said "your wife is on the way to the hospital, we are with your kids, you better come quickly." They didn't tell him what was going on. What a horrible phone call. I feel a lot of guilt, for the things Mike saw that day, he was very scared and for having Luke have to receive that call.
On the way to the hospital, the emt's wouldn't give me anything for pain. I was crying at this point it was so bad, and I have a very high pain tolerance. We finally get to Lake East Hospital. (can I say I hate it there) We go in and the sheets on my stretcher are covered in blood. I get a room right away and what do the doctors do? LEAVE ME ALONE! I didn't have my cell phone and couldn't reach the phone in the room. I kept thinking I am going to die from blood loss and no one will know. I got hysterical, so one of the EMT's found me. He stuck around until Luke came. In the emergency room the doctor was a bumbling idiot. I didn't get pain meds for about an hour, the nurses were awful as well. I kept telling Luke not to leave me because the staff would let me die. Here I was bleeding to death and they acted like i had a minor cold or something. Then comes in a nurse, who if you went to Willoughby Middle, he looked just like Mr. Meale. Yikes. He had to give me a cathetor. Why i am not sure, but lets say he sucked at it. Because there was so much blood there, he couldn't get it in. He was by far my most hated person there, so I did tell the other nurses could they please find someone who wasn't going to add MORE pain to me and save the train-ee nurses for people who have minor injuries!
Finally after what seem like a lifetime, I got a room upstairs and moved. The nursing staff was better there. I also didn't realize how serious everything was yet and neither did anyone else. They called my ob/gyn and he was in surgery all day which sucked for me. At first they were trying some blood clotting drugs. I was upset at this point because it was time to feed Isabella (she was nursing) and I wasn't allowed! Luke had had his sister pick the kids up. I started crying because she was going to have formula. I am sure the nurse thought I was a whack job because I am crying my eyes out that my baby has to drink formula and I am bleeding to death.
It's at this point I don't remember too much. I know what I have been told and I have little blips of memory. i know they gave me a very long ultrasound to figure out the bleeding. During it i kept going in and out of conscienceness and was talking about stuff that wasn't happening. I remember how serious everyone was. They kept trying different medications, but i was getting worse. Everytime they gave my stats, they were worse. My levels were going down and my heart rate and blood pressure where through the roof. I did hear the words "cardiac arrest" mentioned more than one time. I wanted constant update on my kids. I was still really upset to be away from them. My family came up to visit and see me, but I don't remember any of that. My older sister came up and I had no idea she had even been there. At this point Luke's parents had taken my kids since we knew I would be spending the night.
What happens next is and was the most devestating day in my whole life............
